Energy-Conscious District in Central Texas Contracts for $1MM Facilities Upgrade

In an effort to conserve energy and dollars, Comanche Independent School District in Comanche, Texas, has contracted with TAC Energy Solutions for more than $1 million in facilities upgrades. The work will include high-tech improvements to the district's lighting, HVAC, and energy management systems.

CISD Superintendent Rick Howard pointed to outdated mechanical systems, including the freezer and cooler temperature controls in the district's buildings, as well as one school's aging roof, as prompting the decision to upgrade.

Additional improvements planned under the contract include installation of TAC's own Vista EMS facility automation system and software; energy-efficient lighting featuring T8 fluorescent bulbs; and a high-efficiency rooftop HVAC system in CISD's intermediate school. The company said it expects annual utility cost savings of more than $14,000 as a result of the improvements.

TAC has already completed one performance contract for CISD, which, according to a company spokesperson, has both saved the district money and helped substantially reduce its facilities' CO2 emissions. Howard noted this success as a key reason why CISD went with TAC for its energy upgrades.
