Online Simulation Courseware Teaches Real-Life Skills

Tata Interactive Systems (www.tatainteractive.com) is now offering its self-contained units of e-learning content, called SimBLs (simulation-based learning objects), for the K-12 and higher education markets. These interactive simulation programs walk students though multiple decision paths to test their knowledge on varying subject areas. For K-12, there are math programs that enable teachers and students to draw circles and lines with a compass, and then alter and manipulate the figures. This program can be used by the students individually or as a group with the teacher guiding the students though the steps.

For the higher education market, TIS has created SimBLs for subjects ranging from nursing to business, which are used by students individually. For example, "Legal Issues in the Reduction of Workforce" is a simulation that positions students as company supervisors who are responsible for laying off three out of five employees. Each employee's personnel file is displayed, along with advice from company attorneys and supervisors to aid students in making informed decisions.
