Mitsubishi Debuts WXGA Projectors for Education


Mitsubishi is expanding its 500-series of digital classroom projectors with two new wide-format models: the WD510U and the WD500U-ST. The WD500U-ST is a short-throw projector designed specifically for whiteboard applications and other environments where space may be limited.

Both of the new single-chip DLP models offer WXGA resolution (1,280 x 800, 16:10 aspect ratio) with a six-segment color wheel and Color Enhancer and BrilliantColor technology. Both offer a contrast ratio of 2,000:1. The WD510U offers a brightness of 2,600 lumens, while the WD500U-ST offers a brightness of 2,100 lumens.

Other features of the two new projectors include:

  • Filter-free design with a top-loading lamp;
  • 4,000-hour lamp (in economy mode);
  • Support for projecting onto a variety of colored surfaces, as well as specific enhancements for projecting onto whiteboards that help eliminate hotspots;
  • Dual computer inputs and monitor loopthrough, plus a DVI-D input;
  • Vertical digital keystone correction ±15 degrees);
  • RS-232 for remote projector management; and
  • Security features in the form of password protection and a reinforced anti-theft security bar.

The WD510U and WD500U-ST are available now. The WD510U sells for $1,495 (suggested), while the short-throw version sells for $1,695.
