Initiative Extends Curricula to Homes

A new initiative from Computer Curriculum Corp. (CCC) promises to deliver school curriculum to homes, libraries and community centers via several delivery methods, including high-speed modem, ISDN and broadband cable modem.

The first product is HomeReach, which extends the firm's Success-Maker courseware to the home. As students take CCC courses at school, student performance information is automatically generated; these files are transferred to and from school and home computers to continually track student progress.

Parents and siblings can meet their own learning goals with HomeReach in areas such as literacy skills, GED preparation and ESL. The basic package includes reading, math, early learning and reference software for grades K-8. Adult and bilingual courses are sold separately.

The HomeReach program has been in use at beta test sites in Las Cruces, N.M., and Flint, Mich. In addition, CCC is evaluating the delivery of curriculum via high-speed broadband cable modems in California.

The firm offers extensive educator training and support for HomeReach as well as training for parents. Computer Curriculum Corp., Sunnyvale, CA, (408) 745-6270.
