Database Contains Urban Ed. Resources

The ERIC Clearinghouse on Urban Education, part of the U.S. Department of Education's Educational Resources Information Center, recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of its Web site: eric-web.tc.columbia.edu.

Visitors can access book-length publications, examine research reviews and read short summaries of publications in the database. When possible, each document links to a reference list, an ERIC abstract of the reference citation and a service to order paper copies of documents.

The Urban Education Web is organized by subject areas such as school reform, equity and cultural diversity, compensatory education and school safety. For example, short parent guides address violence in the schools, homeless students, minority teachers and more.

Two of the most comprehensive areas are the Urban and Minority Families and Historically Black Colleges and Universities sections.
