Interactive Courses Cover Programming
Developed by Waite Group Press (WGP), the Interactive Course series lets one learn about various computer applications and programming languages without picking up a book. Instead, students enter the ìeZone,î a Web site that provides customized instruction and testing.
A personal mentor will answer readers' questions about the material via e-mail.
Currently, the course series covers C++, Perl 5, HTML 3, VBScript, JavaScript, Office 97, Java 1.1, Visual Basic 5, ActiveX and Photoshop 4. WGP is planning new courses on HTML 3.2, Perl 5, Web Databases, Web Graphics and CGI Programming.
In conjunction with these courses, Marquette University (Milwaukee, Wisc.) will offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to those eZone users who complete certain examinations. To receive the credits (1 or 2 CEUs per course), students must pass each course, pay a $100 registration fee and pass a test created by Marquette.
The eZone titles themselves sell for $40 to $50. Besides communicating with an online mentor, students can discuss topics with each other in the ìChill Zone.î Waite Group Press, Macmillan Computer Publishing, (415) 924-2575, www.waite.com
