Collaborative Learning Instructs Children in Debate and Counseling

AHA! Interactive announces the launch of two new Collaborative Learning Units (CLU) for grades 6 through 12, titled Nutrition Counselor and The Great Global Warming Debate (which will be available in March 2001). These new Internet-based team projects are 2 to 4 week units of science and social science curricula aligned with state and national learning standards. AHA! Interactive's CLUs are next generation learning environments that combine a problem-solving process, content and productivity tools. The program assigns students from around the world to virtual teams. Together these teams research, debate and resolve issues via the Internet.

In Nutritional Counselor, student teams are assigned a virtual teen case study for which they must recommend a nutritional and exercise regimen based on the client's unique needs and lifestyle. Students examine the health effects and demands of sports training and eating disorders, as well as the social pressures and dynamics that influence nutritional health.

The Great Global Warming Debate groups students in teams to study and debate international environmental, political and economic issues associated with global climate change. Each virtual team represents a country in the United Nations as they examine scientific and economic data, share findings and collaborate on a viable solution. In addition, as part of the program, students connect with renowned scientists and content experts recruited to answer their questions and critique their work. AHA!
