New Releases...Tool Promotes Electronic Research

Gemteq Software, Inc. has developed eGems Collector Pro, an electronic research companion that enables educators and students to conduct and organize electronic research from the Internet, digital libraries, e-mail, and other applications. The software is an easy-to-understand application that will help students with classroom or independent research. The application appears as a small box in the corner of the screen. As a student conducts research, he or she can drag and drop useful information into the application window, which will place the information into organized storage. These “gems” can consist of text passages, URLs, spreadsheets, tables, graphics and screenshots.

As information is saved, its electronic source data is captured and stored all in the same step. At that point, the student can complete a bibliographic template to fill in missing information and format it based on MLA standards. Later, the research can be dragged and dropped for incorporation into students’ work, such as Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, or HyperStudio displays. In addition, stored eGems databases of teaching tools found on the Internet can be organized in a personalized storage structure for later use, or shared with staff and colleagues via e-mail.
