CNN Launches Student News Program
Turner Learning is re-launching its CNN-branded educational programs as CNN Student News, an integrated platform offering daily on-air and online resources for middle and high school classrooms. The relaunch also includes a new Education Sponsor initiative that allows sponsors to support additional features, weekly reports and special series on-air and online.
CNN Student News offers teachers more resources and functionality with three components that can be used as a single integrated program or independently: On-Air, Online and Hands-On Resources. The On-Air component includes CNN Student News, formerly CNN Newsroom, a commercial- and cost-free news and features program designed specifically for classroom use. The program is divided into two 15-minute segments - CNN Student News and CNN Student News Perspectives - allowing teachers to select and use the segments that best fit their curriculum requirements.
The Online component complements the on-air program, offering additional detail and resources, including daily lesson plans for teachers, feature articles, in-depth specials, links to other educational resources, video clips and other interactive elements.
The Hands-On Resources component offers expanded resources that allow teachers to integrate news, current events and special programming into their classrooms. A key resource is the CNN Student Bureau, a program that offers a voice to the world's youth. This project-centered learning program gives high school and college students worldwide the opportunity to build a range of skills through journalism, including research, writing and presentation skills. Stories appear on CNN Student News Perspectives and on broader CNN networks. Turner Learning, Atlanta, GA, (800) 344-6219, www.turnerlearning.com.
