Program Provides Guided Reading Materials

Reading A-Z, developed and funded by LearningPage.com, provides educators with hundreds of downloadable guided reading books, lesson plans, worksheets, alphabet books, read-aloud books and other tools designed to improve the reading skills of students. The program's core consists of a series of more than 150 leveled readers, books that are appropriate for each developmental level. The Reading A-Z program is intended for children ages 4 to 11, but addresses a wide range of reading abilities found within any grade level or age group through 27 levels of graduated reading difficulty. The leveled readers have been correlated to popular leveling systems such as Fountas and Pinnell, and Reading Recovery.

The program also provides benchmark books for assessment at each reading level. Teachers use these books and a "running record" form to evaluate a student's progress. The printable leveled readers can be used for small-group guided reading instruction or as take-home books to be read with family members. An added benefit of the Reading A-Z level readers is that teachers can make as many copies of a book as they wish. A free preview containing 30 sample books is available at www.readinga-z.com. Annual subscriptions are available, as well as school site and district licenses. New books and other resources are added to the program every month.
