CCUMC 2003 to Focus on 'Treasures on Campus'
As many institutions nationwide face budget reductions and elimination of services, media centers are continually challenged to remain vibrant and dynamic organizations. The importance of marketing, as well as providing outstanding and reliable service is the focus of this year's Consortium of College and University Media Centers (CCUMC) Annual Conference: "Treasures on Campus." Hosted by the University of South Carolina, CCUMC 2003 will be held Oct. 30-Nov. 3 at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, S.C.
The mission of CCUMC is to provide leadership and a forum for information exchange to providers of media and technology support at higher education institutions. CCUMC has more than 700 members representing all sizes of institutions in higher education and companies that provide related products. A major benefit of the CCUMC conference for attendees is the ability to network with colleagues.
The most important aspects of this year's conference will be panel discussions and presentations on perceptions of media centers, organizational structure, marketing media services and developing annual reports. Other topics that are part of our "hidden treasures" are student workers, building community through technology, and designing classroom and digital support services. Topics regularly presented at the annual conference include emerging technologies, copyright, multimedia, distance learning, media-collection management, budget management, and instructional facilities planning and maintenance.
