U. of Michigan, IBM Collaborate on DAM System

The University of Michigan (www.umich.edu) and IBM (www.ibm.com) have announced that they are collaborating on a Digital Asset Management System in the Living Laboratory of the university's Media Union to make its vast collection of digital content far easier to find and use. The system will also make it possible for faculty and students to find, customize and edit media assets from the desktop.

The project uses IBM's DB2 Content Management software and solutions from IBM business partners, including Ancept Inc. (www.ancept.com). It focuses on the access, manipulation and control of video, audio, images and other digital content in a learning environment. In addition, the university is exploring the possibility of joint research with IBM to develop digital rights management technology to address the unique requirements of academe.
