Minnesota Districts Dump Paper, Move to Oracle

TIES--a technology and services cooperative owned by 38 Minnesota school districts--is using Oracle solutions for its TIES Records Management Project (TRMP).

According to Oracle, the cooperative has implemented Oracle Universal Records Management and Oracle Distributed Document Capture, replacing outdated systems that include paper documents and microfiche. The new system allows participating districts to consolidate their important records, simplifying the entire process through a single platform.

"The district employees really appreciate the process improvements. Capturing documents and loading them into the system is much easier than the previous process of managing thousands of paper files or converting everything to microfiche," said Helmut Porcher, director of systems software and operations, TIES, in a prepared statement.

According to Oracle, the benefits of the new system include a reduction in costs associated with physical document creation and storage; improved access to records through a centrally located repository; and time savings through an integrated scanning and storage process, making files available for immediate use. Additionally, the records management system carries Department of Defense certification, meeting the state's security standards for records management.
