The Latin School Migrates to BakBone for Data Backup and Recovery
##AUTHORSPLIT##<--->
The Latin School of Chicago has signed on with BakBone Software to provide its VMware-based virtualized infrastructure and heterogeneous data protection. Under the agreement, the school will use BakBone's NetVault: Backup solution to protect information on more than 80 servers throughout the campus.
According to the company, the BakBone system will secure the school's 10 TB of data that's spread over network encompassing two libraries, a cafe, a student store, and the development office, as well as accounting, payroll, and finance, among others. The new system is intended to cut backup time, simplify recovery, and integrate with the school's virtualization solutions.
"We are not shy about embracing new technologies like virtualization and leveraging multiple operating systems, including Linux," said Shandor Simon, director of Networking Services, The Latin School of Chicago, in a prepared statement. "We needed a dependable backup solution that could support Linux, Windows and Mac OS that complemented our current backup process and could scale to meet our school's growing demands. We found our answer with BakBone."
The school's current network infrastructure includes support for more than 1,000 students in grades preK-12 and 250 teachers, covering around 700 desktop machines.
