Tamalpais Union HSD Implements Multi-Campus WiFi Network

Tamalpais Union High School District in Marin County, California, has recently partnered with Aruba Networks to deploy the company's wireless network technology district-wide.

The new WiFi infrastructure is aimed at helping the district increase classroom access to technology assets while moving away from "stand-alone computer labs." According to the announcement, the new installation gives all classrooms and common areas in the district WiFi access, while at the same time eliminating "rogue access points." The system also includes centralized management of both secure and non-secure networks.

"Offering wireless access in every classroom affords teachers with the opportunity to use laptops and wireless devices in novel ways," said Joel Hames, Tamalpais Union High School District's senior director of information technology, in a prepared statement. "To accomplish this we needed to provide ubiquitous wireless access with integrated security to preserve network integrity and privacy. Our previous wireless efforts were ad-hoc, at best, with staff members bringing wireless access points as needed to solve specific access issues.  We selected Aruba because the platform offered a comprehensive suite of tools for managing and maintaining our wireless network."

The new installation includes three MMC-6000 Multi-Service Mobility Controllers, 175 access points, and Aruba's AirWave Management Platform.
