Foundation Grants $314,000 to Education Programs
26 grants were awarded to non profit organizations by Staples Foundation for Learning last week. The grants totaling $314,000 were dispersed to schools across the United States for disadvantaged student programs and ranged from $2,000 to $50,000.
Gold Crown Enrichment, Lakewood, CO received $10,000 for its art and technology enrichment program, which is designed to help bolster student achievement through exposure to technology and the arts. The foundation also awarded $15,000 Crayons to Computers, Cincinnati, OH. Crayons to Computers has an initiative called Push for Pencils, which is an annual drive to stock classrooms with school supplies.

- Decisions to Win, a program of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast, Venice, FL ($10,000);
- College Access, an effort of Bottom Line, Jamaica Plain, MA ($5,000);
- National Summer Learning Day, a program of Center for Summer Learning, Baltimore, MD ($10,000);
- Teen Achievers, an initiative of Central Florida YMCA, Orlando, FL ($10,000);
- The Teacher Store, Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation, Carrboro, NC ($10,000);
- After-school programs of Citizen Schools, Boston, MA ($15,000), which enables middle school
students to enroll in apprenticeship programs; - Center Institute Arts Program of Coney Island Preparatory Public Charter School, New York, NY ($10,000);
- Ready for School a program of Cradles to Crayons, Quincy, MA ($10,000);
- The Red Apple Scholarship Fund of the Denver Zoological Foundation, Denver, CO ($5,000);
- Raising a Reader, a program of Family & Children’s Center, South Bend, IN ($5,000);
- Teacher Grants, Franklin Education Foundation, Franklin, MA ($2,000);
- Teacher Grants, an effort of Fund for Teachers, Houston, TX ($50,000);
- Reducing Achievement Gaps an initiative from Jewish Family Services of MetroWest, Framingham, MA ($10,000);
- Kids in Need Resources Centers, Kids in Need Foundation, Dayton, OH ($10,000);
- Green Grants program of The NEA Foundation, Washington, DC ($50,000), for environmentally focused projects;
- Young Entrepreneurs Project (YEP), a program of Partners for Youth with Disabilities, Boston, MA ($10,000);
- Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, MA ($10,000);
- Respect, Integrity and Success through Education (RISE), Braintree, MA ($5,000);
- Reach Out & Read, Beloit, WI ($2,000);
- Enterprise for Success, an effort of School to Work Council, Paris, KY ($10,000);
- Experiential Learning Curriculum, a project of Squashbusters, Roxbury, MA ($10,000);
- Teach for America, Boston, MA ($15,000);
- Woodruff Arts Center, Atlanta, GA ($5,000); and
- Operation College Bound, an initiative of Youth Outreach Services, Chicago, IL ($10,000).
