Virtual Science Club Brings Online Labs to Elementary Students

Champions, an educational technology developer, has released Virtual Science Club, a Web-based program designed to help children learn scientific concepts and skills.

In the first offering, "Mystery of the Pharoah's Treasure," some of the tasks students tackle include virtual analysis of sand samples under a microscope, investigation of acid and base properties in water, identification of stars and constellations, and map reading. The adventure can be explored online here.

The program, intended for students of grade levels 3 through 7, is projected to include other lesson groups in which participants follow a story, solving problems along the way. According to Champions, the lessons align with national science education standards.
