Indiana K-12 School District Moves to Collaborative Learning System

Vigo County School Corp., a K-12 district in Terre Haute, IN, has adopted Follett Software's digital learning environment Cognite in an effort to consolidate digital resources and provide an easy-to-use collaborative learning system for its students and teachers.

Bill Bruce, VCSC's director of technology, noted that, since district already uses Follett's Destiny Library Manager, Destiny Media Manager, TitlePeek, and WebPath Express, Cognite's interactivity with these applications would allow fast and easy integration of all of the district's digital resources into a single interface, which he also said would reduce costs in the long term. We will ultimately use it at all of our grade levels," he said.

Cognite offers a range of features aimed at facilitating learning in a collaborative environment, including:

  • Access to digital library resources from any computer with an Internet connection;
  • Easy access to resources shared within the school's user environment;
  • Drag-and-drop functionality in the UI;
  • Search functions including safe search filtering;
  • Calendar and scheduling;
  • Web 2.0 communication tools; and
  • Integration with the company's widely used Destiny line of education solutions, including Library Manager, Textbook Manager, and Media Manager.

A downloadable PDF detailing Cognite's features, uses, and results is available here.
