Pearson Debuts iBooks for iPad at FETC

Pearson has debuted a new suite of interactive textbooks for use in conjunction with Apple's iPad this week at the Florida Education Technology Conference (FETC) in Orlando.

The new iBook line, featuring four-color illustrations, animations, photos, videos, and self-assessments, is designed to make the interactive learning possible with an iPad available to high school students anywhere at anytime.

Titles currently available from Apple's iBookstore include: Miller & Levine Biology, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Environmental Science. In the next few weeks, Chemistry and Algebra 2 texts will follow. Pearson will also "be working with schools to track student performance with the new iBook on iPad," according to information released by the company.

Also during the conference, Pearson is showcasing the Reading Maturity Metric, an assessment of text complexity designed to support the literacy-related goals found in the Common Core State Standards. The metric is designed to assess how individual student reading levels compare to those needed to succeed in a given career or college-level major.

The iBook and the Reading Maturity Metric will be joined by a full slate of additional offerings from Pearson on display at FETC in booth 901 through January 26.
