HP Thin Clients Get Improved Security and Graphics Capabilities

HP is gearing up to ship two new thin clients, the HP t610 Flexible Series Thin Client and the HP t510 Thin Client. Both thin clients feature dual-core CPUs and support multiple monitors and remote connections. They also include graphics cores that offload processing from the server to the chipset to facilitate multimedia streaming and high-definition graphics.

According to HP, the t610 and t510 are optimized for compatibility with Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop, Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol 7, and VMware View. They include HP Easy Tools for configuration and HP Device Manager for remote management. Administrators can manage the thin clients using Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011.

HP touts the security features of the t610, which include a BIOS that complies with the security recommendations of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, as well as an on-board Trusted Platform Module that protects access to networks under the certification requirements of the Trusted Computing Group.

Key features of the HP t610 Flexible Series Thin Client include:

  • Dual-core AMD G-series processor with integrated discrete-class AMD Radeon graphics;
  • Two GB DDR3 1,600 MHz RAM, expandable to 4 GB;
  • Passive cooling to reduce noise and eliminate moving parts;
  • AMD Accelerated Processing Unit (APU), which integrates a low-power CPU and discrete-level GPU into a single integrated unit;
  • Support for DirectX11 for 3D visual effects and accelerated graphics performance;
  • Energy Star qualification and EPEAT Gold status;
  • HP Active Thermal Management to prevent the device from shutting down from overheating;
  • Support for Microsoft Windows Embedded Standard and HP ThinPro thin-client enhance Linux operating systems; and
  • Optional HP Smart Zero Technology for zero-touch management.

Key features of the HP t510 Thin Client include:

  • VIA Eden X2 U4200 1 GHz dual-core CPU;
  • VIA Chromotion HD 2.0 graphics; and
  • 2 GB DDR3 1,066 MHz RAM.

The HP t610 Flexible Series Thin Client has a starting price of $399, and the HP t510 Thin Client has a starting price of $259. They will be available in the Asia Pacific and Japan region in March and elsewhere in April. Further information is available on the HP site.

In other HP news, the company has revealed its new HP Z1 all-in-one workstation, which features a 27-inch display. HP built the Z1 with computer-aided design, digital media, and entertainment professionals in mind. It features Intel Xeon processors, Nvidia Quadro graphics, and support for more than 1 billion colors.

The HP Z1 all-in-one workstation should be available worldwide in April with a starting price of $1,899 in the United States. Further information is available on the HP site.
