Students with ADHD Get Help from iPad App

Memory on Demand is testing a new iPad app designed for adults and children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Focus GPS was created to help users with ADHD improve executive functions of memory, concentration, and organization.

Focus GPS uses memory-by-association and multiple pair comparison tools to walk users through complex thought processes. The tools were designed to help users learn how to organize unrelated complex thoughts and better manage changing priorities and tasks, areas where ADHDers typically struggle.

Focus GPS is the brainchild of Memory on Demand founder Ray Omholt who suffered a stroke in 1990 that impaired his executive functions, according to a statement released last week by the company. After conducting research on brain function, memory, and concentration, Omholt created Focus GPS as a way to improve his memory and organizational skills.

"My software discoveries made it possible for me to lead a normal life in spite of the damage to my executive functions resulting from my stroke, so it seemed reasonable to me to think that these discoveries could very well be equally valuable to others faced with similar problems," Omholt explained.

The company plans to release iOS and Android versions of the application. For more information, visit Memory on Demand's Web site.
