TI Sees Tablets Driving Demand for 1080p Projectors in Education

Texas Instruments reported that the growth of tablets in education will drive the need for 1080p HD projectors. TI said it will fortify its commitment to the education market through promotion of its DLP chip architecture, which supports both high definition 1080p data projectors and mobile projectors in group learning environments.

Over the next three years, sales of tablets will more than double, and as a result of this growth, 1080p projector sales are predicted to exceed 1 million worldwide by 2016, according to a study conducted by Futuresource Consulting.

The dynamic display capabilities of high-definition 1080p chip technology, which has been a standard in the sport, home cinema, and gaming consumer markets for some time, is migrating into the classroom where the desire for flexible technology options and "bring your own device" (BYOD) are growing trends in today's schools.

"According to a study we ran in December, 14 percent of children would have asked for a tablet this Christmas--staggering proof of how much the technology is taking hold of society, both in terms of consumers, like these children, but also businesses," said Ben Davis, Futuresource Consulting, in a prepared statement.

"The widespread adoption of tablet devices across all sectors and resulting increase in consumption of HD video content is driving a real demand for higher resolution projectors in classrooms and meeting rooms. As a result, we expect 1080p to be the next resolution to see strong growth in the EMEA B2B projector market," Davis said.

The benefits of using DTP technology in the classroom include the ability to connect a variety of different devices and content to DLP's 1080p front projectors and to view the high-resolution display on any surface.
