Colorado District Ramps Up Network Infrastucture Across 20 Sites

Colorado's Falcon School District 49 has beefed up its Internet and wide area network (WAN) infrastructure ahead of the start of the 2013-2014 school year.

The project required 15 miles of new fiber and will provide a Gigabit Enthernet WAN connection to each of 20 district sites.

The district chose Falcon Broadband to deploy the network using Extreme Networks' "Summit series switches to support data transfer in the school district's private cloud and public internet access," according to a news release about the move.

"We require total availability from our new network as we need an infrastructure that scales for thousands of different end-users and thousands of different devices," said Stephanie Wurtz, public information officer for the district, in a prepared statement.  "Our experience with Extreme Networks and Falcon Broadband has been exceptional as the design, delivery and installation of the solution have been completed by the start of the new school year."

Falcon School District 49 serves approximately 15,000 students at nine elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools. The district also includes three alternative schools and three charter schools. More information about the district is available at d49.org.
