Flipped Learning Day: Channel One Offers Free Video, Common Core-Aligned Activities

Channel One, an educational video content provider and owner of Channel One News, will provide free video content and Common Core-aligned activities for teachers until Sept. 10 as part of Flipped Learning Network's Flipped Day program.

FLN's Flipped Day, which takes place Sept. 6, encourages teachers to try flipped learning by starting with "flipping" one lesson. In a flipped learning environment, students watch lectures online at home, while in the classroom they participate in related activities.

Specifically, Channel One will provide access to its 12-minute daily videos and supplemental materials that put current events into context. Channel One's programs are "designed to help students, teachers and parents interpret the news and spark important conversations," according to the company. They are viewed by elementary, middle, and high school students.

"We are really excited to participate in Flipped Learning Network's inaugural Flipped Day. Our daily video broadcast is the perfect tool to enable authentic learning, tied to the news and real world events, in a flipped classroom environment. This year, we've made a significant investment in curriculum development and are thrilled to offer participants a robust, relevant video and CCSS-aligned activity package to support their flipped learning experience," said CJ Kettler, Channel One News CEO, in a prepared statement.

For more information and to check out Channel One News' video and curriculum content, go to flippedlearning.org/Domain/43. Username and password can be found under "Channel One News," and provides access to its archive.
