Cengage Adds Speech Capture Software to MindTap

Cengage Learning has teamed up with YouSeeU to integrate its speech capture software with MindTap in an effort to help students improve their presentation skills.

The YouSeeU app within the platform allows students to record speech presentations with a phone or webcam, then upload them to be evaluated by their peers or teachers.

"YouSeeU helps educators engage students in the learning process and extend their reach — in the classroom and out — as students use recorded video to participate in discussions, assignments, demonstrations, oral exams and other learning activities," according to a news release. "In a traditional classroom setting, instructors can use the YouSeeU MindApp for live capture of speeches and presentations, video upload and real-time review, grading and assessment, while students can comment and collaborate on submitted presentations. The ability to practice and present helps alleviate speech anxiety and builds better oral communication skills."

"We know that face-to-face interaction is often the key to engagement and learning – especially in communications courses – but attending a class in person may not be feasible for distance-education students," said Jim Donohue, chief product officer at Cengage Learning, in a prepared statement. "With the new YouSeeU MindApp, we can provide the next best option while also enhancing the learning experience for students in traditional classroom settings."
