New Personalized Learning Course Draws Materials from The Electric Company

Starting next year, Sesame Workshop will release a new adaptive learning curriculum for math and reading based on educational concepts found in its television series The Electric Company.

The curriculum, part of a partnership between Sesame and Knewton, will help identify concepts that students need to work on, and then offer personalized Electric Company materials and recommendations on what to study to meet their needs.

Parents and teachers can also use the company’s platform to access various learning analytics and personalized suggestions for students. Metrics about how students are performing are also used to automatically refine a student’s lessons.

"Encouraging young children to develop a love of learning and learn more effectively are core to our vision," said Jose Ferreira, Knewton founder and CEO in a statement. "Sesame Workshop's content is awesome stuff — we all remember how much we loved it when we were kids ourselves and the organization has continued to create high quality content over the years."

Knewton already partners with a number of other companies, like Pearson and Microsoft, on a number of adaptive learning courses.
