Maryland District Adds 7,500 Solar Panels

Maryland's Cecil County Public Schools is installing a 2.5-megawatt solar photovoltaic project designed to meet approximately 92 percent of the district's energy needs.

Scheduled for completion by year's end, the 7,500-plus panel system is being installed by Standard Solar and financed by SunEdison through a power purchase agreement. The Maryland Energy Administration has also provided a "$98,000 grant to help offset the cost of interconnecting the solar system to the electrical grid," according to a news release.

"This project marks Cecil County Board of Education's commitment to furthering the advancement of solar energy and we are honored to take part in this event recognizing the progress in bringing this commitment to reality," said Standard Solar CEO Tony Clifford, in a prepared statement.
