Tennessee Picks a CCSS Assessment Vendor

According to a letter from Gov. Bill Haslam and Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman, Tennessee’s first Common Core-aligned assessments will most likely be developed by North Carolina-based Measurement Incorporated.

The letter, written to the five testing vendors whose applications for Tennessee’s contract were reviewed by a committee of educators and government officials, said that Measurement Incorporated has not accepted the state’s offer, and the state reserves the right to reject the company’s final proposal.

Tennessee had been on track to implement online assessments developed by PARCC this year. Instead, the legislature voted to continue using the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program this school year and open up a bidding process for a new vendor, whose tests would be rolled out in 2016.
