Curriculum Associates Updates Ready Mathematics with Online Activities

Curriculum Associates has updated its Ready Mathematics program with online activities designed to help students in grades 2-5 improve conceptual understanding, problem solving and procedural fluency. The update also includes a new Practice and Problem Solving Book.

Designed for students in grades K-8, Ready Common Core Mathematics  focuses on the conceptual understanding and mathematical reasoning highlighted by the Common Core State Standards.

"Teacher Resource Books support teachers with strong embedded professional development, including step-by-step lesson plans, mathematical discourse questions and possible student solutions to help support teachers in learning the new standards, and instructional strategies," according to a news release. "In addition to the new Math Center Activities, the Online Teacher Toolbox provides teachers with invaluable, easy-to-use resources, including access to all Ready Mathematics K–8 lessons, and additional resources to enable teachers to differentiate instruction and reteach prerequisite skills students may not have mastered in earlier grade levels."

With the update, each standard now has two activities, available through the program's Online Teacher Toolbox, that can be differentiated for students performing on, below or above level and can be assigned to students individually or in small groups.

Designed to complement the Student Instruction Book, the new Practice and Problem Solving Book includes:

  • Family letters for each lesson, designed to help engage parents by explaining content;
  • Problems designed to encourage higher-order thinking;
  • Performance tasks designed to integrate multiple standards; and
  • Unit games, designed to encourage collaboration, conceptual understanding and fluency.

"It is essential for students to receive rigorous math practice — both at school and at home — so that they gain confidence in their skills and successfully meet the expectations of the new standards," said Rob Waldron, CEO of Curriculum Associates, in a prepared statement. "Now with the new additions to the Ready Common Core Mathematics program, students have even more opportunities to strengthen their higher-order thinking skills to solve complex problems and make real progress toward their math goals."
