Gale has updated its resources to be compliant with Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) 1.0 standards and Deep Linking from the IMS Global Learning Consortium.
The move enables single sign-on and allows instructors to embed content from their library's Gale collections to into any learning management system that supports the standards, including Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, Schoology and more. The Deep Linking compatibility will allow teachers to integrate resources into assignments, digital discussion spaces, assessments and more. Accessing these capabilities within the LMS makes adding the resources no more complicated than an additional step in an educator's existing workflow. The integration will also boost the visibility of the library's resources, according to a blog post about the update.
"Our teachers were extremely pleased with the ease of use and simple setup. The ability to search and embed into specific assignments, discussions and pages, without ever leaving our Canvas environment, has increased usage of our Gale databases," said Gretta Rogne, secondary instructional technology specialist at New Caney Independent School District, in a prepared statement. "The more tools and integrations we make accessible in Canvas, the greater usage we see in our resources."
"Our LMS integration allows libraries to extend the value of their Gale resources to meet classroom needs," said Liz Mason, senior vice president of product at Gale, in a news release. "This is core to our mission to connect libraries to learners by enriching the relationship between librarians and educators to transform the way students learn."
