Digital Literacy Platform Adds Reading Level Assessments

Age of Learning is making enhancements to its digital library and literacy platform ReadingIQ to help provide students with books that match their reading level capabilities.

Age of Learning is looking to make the reading experience more personalized for children under the age of 12. The company has added Reading Level Assessments to its ReadingIQ digital literacy platform, to help provide children with age-appropriate passages and accompanying comprehension questions. These assessments will dynamically adjust the platform's degree of difficulty in response to each child's performance.

ReadingIQ currently utilizes three book leveling systems: Accelerated Reader, Lexile and Guided Reading. Developed in conjunction with assessment research organization SRI International, the system's assessments give children quick tests to determine their reading capabilities. Periodically, the platform will prompt children to retake the assessments to adjust their recommended reading materials. The assessments are currently available for families that utilize the ReadingIQ platform and will be available for use in schools before the upcoming school year.

"ReadingIQ is more than a collection of nearly 10,000 high-quality books — it's a literacy platform with the goal of developing and advancing children's reading skills," said Age of Learning CEO Doug Dohring. "These latest enhancements help ensure young readers more easily find books at the appropriate reading level to engage, inspire and delight them."

ReadingIQ offers nearly 10,000 titles from leading publishers and the platform is available on computers, tablets and smartphones. More information about the ReadingIQ platform can be found here.
