Discovery Ed To Launch Sesame Street-Branded Channel for PreK–2 in Fall 2022

Nonprofit media group Sesame Workshop and K–12 digital learning provider Discovery Education today unveiled plans for an early learning channel featuring Sesame Street characters, set to debut this fall.

Designed for grades PreK–2, the new channel coming to the Discovery Education’s platform will feature Sesame Street-branded, grade-appropriate educational video content, lesson plans and other educator resources, interactive games, and classroom activities, according to a news release. The channel will emphasize a “whole-child approach,” Discovery Education said.

“Beginning with curricular resources designed to address new and continuing needs associated with interrupted schooling and prioritized by Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funding, the content comprises social and emotional development and wellness; foundational academic skills in math and literacy; and a social studies-aligned curriculum focused on positive and healthy identity and sense of belonging,” the company said. “At the center of these resources will be research-based content from across the wide range of Sesame Workshop media, including Sesame Street, The Electric Company, and more.”

Plans are in the works to add content on topics such as STEAM concepts, healthy habits, and beginning coding, Discovery Education said, and educator feedback and requests will be prioritized.
