Apple Expands Community Education Initiative to Over 600 Communities

Launched in 2019, Apple’s Community Education Initiative (CEI) has been expanded to 150 partners in 600 communities in 99 countries and regions, and all 50 states, the company announced. CEI provides access to coding, creativity, and job opportunities to students of all ages and from all backgrounds, with special focus on communities that are traditionally underrepresented in technology.

Apple partners with schools and educational and community-based institutions to provide “hardware, scholarships, financial support, educator resources, and access to teams of Apple experts who work side by side with educators to enhance student learning with technology,” the company said, as it did a few weeks ago at the Center for Innovation in STEM Education lab for a “STEAM Max” experience at California State University, Dominguez Hills. Apple customizes its programming, based on a community’s goals, to help students learn new technology in and outside of school.

The company’s newest partnership is with Oklahoma City University and the Cherokee, Choctaw and Chickasaw nations to provide opportunities to Native American youth living on reservations to learn technology and pursue career goals while preserving tribal languages and cultures. The program will start with a teacher academy to support educators to include creativity and coding in their classes.
