Business SW Boasts Open Architecture

A true client/server business application, PeopleSoft 5 includes eight new integrated applications for accounting, distribution and human resource management: Budgets, Billing, Project Costing, Order Management, DRP, Inventory, Pension Administration and Time and Labor.

Delrina, IBM and Lotus, among others, have signed on as Open Workflow Partners, offering third-party solutions to streamline business tasks and reduce paperwork. Lotus Notes customers, for example, will be able to interact seamlessly with PeopleSoft applications.

PeopleSoft 5 also expands platform options by supporting the IBM DB2 relational database for AIX. Other enhancements are improved volume processing, an enriched GUI, compatibility with Windows 95 and NT, new process-oriented menus and PeopleBooks documentation.

Pricing for each module varies depending on size of the organization, number of sites and users, and modules licensed. PeopleSoft, Inc., Pleasanton, CA, (510) 225-3000, www.peoplesoft.com.

California AI Watermarking Bill Supported by OpenAI

OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT, is backing a California bill that would require tech companies to label AI-generated content in the form of a digital "watermark." The proposed legislation, known as the "California Digital Content Provenance Standards" (AB 3211), aims to ensure transparency in digital media by identifying content created through artificial intelligence. This requirement would apply to a broad range of AI-generated material, from harmless memes to deepfakes that could be used to spread misinformation about political candidates.
