Co-Op Program Targets Higher Ed.

Microsoft and Zenith Data Systems (ZDS) have launched a ground-breaking program that addresses higher education's critical technology needs.

The Campus Z-Station program offers six Pentium-based hardware configurations -- from notebooks to multimedia desktops -- with special student pricing; powerful software such as Microsoft's Office Professional for Windows 95 and Encarta 96; and easy Internet access with Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0.

Plus, users can receive technical support directly from a ZDS toll-free number or a ZDS-supported campus helpdesk. The companies' goal is to establish Campus Z-Station across higher education, initially targeting 150 universities.

The University of Michigan and Carnegie Mellon University are evaluating the program, which also seeks to offer computers to students before they arrive on campus. Through Campus Connect, the schools can develop specific plug-and-play network configurations.
