Compaq Creates Bundled Solutions for Campuses

Compaq Computer Corp. has announced alliances with Claris Corp., Davidson & Associates, Citadel Technology and McAfee Associates, designed to create new solutions for classrooms, campuses and districts.

Compaq now ships Clarisí ClarisWorks 4.0, Citadelís WinShield, McAfeeís VirusScan and Roger Wagner Publishingís HyperStudio 3.1 for Windows with each Compaq Presario ES PC sold to U.S. schools. In addition, Compaq will be the exclusive PC hardware sponsor of Educast, Davidsonís education-specific push technology software (see p. 86).

These bundled solutions start at an SRP of $1,799. "Compaqís strategy in the education marketplace is to continuously assess our product offerings and adjust and enhance them as necessary," noted Sue Collins, director of education.

With ClarisWorks, one can combine text, spreadsheets, charts, graphics and tables on the same page ó without ever leaving the document. A built-in HTML translator simplifies Web publishing. With HyperStudio 3.1, meanwhile, teachers or students can design multimedia presentations by adding content from the Internet, a CD-ROM or other resources.

For greater security, WinShield restricts PCs and peripherals to authorized users. VirusScan detects and removes viruses from all local and network system areas. Compaq Computer Corp., Houston, TX, (800) 88-TEACH, www.compaq.com/education.
