Dell Forms New Division to Serve Ed. Customers

Dell Computer Corp. has established a new division to serve education, and has entered a joint venture with a Canadian firm to provide those customers with flexible leasing options. Through the Dell Education Alliance, Dell also will sell PCs and servers configured with the latest educational software from Jostens Learning, Computer Curriculum Corp. and McGraw-Hill School Systems.

"As education customers look to build an IT infrastructure for the 21st century, they are increasingly discovering that Dellís direct model, with its customized products and services, enables them to obtain systems tailored to meet their unique requirements," said Ro Parra, vice president of Dell Americas Public and International.

Dell Financial Services LP, formed with Toronto-based Newcourt Credit Corp., offers simple hardware leases as well as complex leases that combine multiple products, services, software, support, installation, asset recovery and project management. As a result, educators can get assistance with the disposal and possible resale of older computer equipment.

Finally, Dell plans to develop secure, dedicated Internet sites (called Premier Pages) for select education customers, allowing them to access service and support information, confirm an order or manufacturing status, and view approved configurations and discounts.
