Virtual Chat Rooms Useful for DL

The Palace is Internet software that provides online communities where members gather on screen to exchange ideas and conversation, using graphical identities they create -- in other words, "virtual chat" technology. Inside these online communities, many actions can take place, such as listening to a lecture, watching a slide show, or chatting with teachers and students. Virtual rooms can be built, focused around themes or topics. For example, the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind has designed their "Palace" to replicate the school itself, with almost 45 "rooms" for students and teachers to meet for a virtual class session.

Beside virtual chat rooms, Palace software has many uses, including hosting live events, presenting workshops, providing services and more. And with the release of InstantPalace, a Java version of the popular Palace client, anyone using a standard Web browser can immediately access Palace communities directly. For more technical information, and to download Palace software, visit the firmís Web site. The Palace, Inc., Beaverton, OR, (503) 626-7575, www.thepalace.com.
