One-Step Internet Setup

Philips Electronics, in conjunction with WebTV Networks, Inc., has developed the One-Step Register program, providing education institutions a convenient way to purchase the service from Microsoft WebTV Network for an entire year. When these institutions purchase a WebTV-based Internet unit by Philips, they can simultaneously purchase a one-year subscription to the WebTV service, creating an effortless way of paying a monthly service charge.

"The One-Step Register program will enable schools to buy both the hardware and the service from a Philips education dealer, making it far more convenient for education institutions to 'one-stop shop'," said Pieter Noordam, general manager, Internet TV, Philips Electronics. With the service, WebTV Plus service subscribers receive a smart card upon purchase of the unit. This allows them to be recognized as part of the One-Stop Register program. Subscribers insert the card into their WebTV-based Internet unit and are registered as a pre-paid user. For WebTV Classic service, subscribers are given an enrollment code to enter manually at registration.

Subscribers to the program purchase 12 months of service at a time. The WebTV Classic service is $239.40 and the WebTV Plus service is $299.40 for the year. Both provide access to the Internet, full software maintenance, upgrades, online support and six user accounts that include e-mail service. This allows multiple students access to e-mail from the same unit. Philips Electronics, Atlanta, GA, USA, (800) 221-5704, www.philipsusa.com.
