Connecting the Campus with Wireless Bridges

p>Aironet Wireless Communications, Inc. released Aironet BR100 Series of 2 Mbps Wireless Bridge products. Designed for wirelessly connecting two or more LANs, typically in different buildings, the Aironet BR100 Series provides exceptional range between sites (up to 25 miles) at a fraction of the cost of comparable wired solutions.

Ideal for connecting multi-site campus environments or any other line of sight application, the BR100 Series uses direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) technology in the unlicensed 2.4 GHz band. The 2Mbps data rate supported by the series connects LANs at speeds comparable to T1 lines at a fraction of the installation cost, while eliminating costly recurring leased line fees. Aironet wireless bridges also are easily re-deployed to other sites to keep pace with changing communication needs.

Recommended for hard to wire sites or when copper wire and optical fiber are cost prohibitive, Aironet wireless bridges use radio communications to link two or more Ethernet networks. Wireless bridges are used to connect branch offices to corporate LANs in a local geographic area, as well as to connect LANs within a college campus. School systems often use wireless bridges to provide low-cost Internet access for multiple schools within a district, or for providing network connections to portable classrooms.
