Consortium to Address Cluster Technology Issues for Higher Education

The Cornell Theory Center at Cornell University has established Advanced Cluster Computing Consortium (AC3) -- a research and IT service consortium for business, higher education, and government agencies interested in the effective planning, implementation and performance of commodity-based systems, software and tools. AC3 aims to support its members in implementing state-of-the-art clustered environments and to provide a window into future cluster technologies.

Consortium members will receive technology briefings, training and consulting services from CTC's Cluster Computing Solutions Group, which can assist in planning commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) systems, UNIX to Windows NT 4.0/Windows 2000 migration services, and provide access to both pre-release hardware, software and high-performance production machines. Dell Computer Corp., Intel Corp and Microsoft Corp have joined AC3 as infrastructure members who will provide hardware, software, training and technical support to the consortium.
