Hewlett Packard

The HP 39G graphing calculator, an extension of the HP 38G family of graphing calculators, possesses more memory and functionality than its predecessor. The calculator contains easy-to-read menus and has more than 600 total functions. The most innovative feature includes a learning tool called E-lessons. These electronic lessons derive from topics in textbooks, and are adapted to help students learn math and science at their own pace. Teachers and students can design their own E-lessons, which can then be sent to other students’ calculators via an infrared port.

The HP 39G contains three major features: math features, statistical features and graphing features. Under the math option, students can practice algebra and trigonometry; view sequences, exponential and logarithmic functions; and use the HP Equations Solver. Pupils may input, view and edit sample data in a table format, then plot results, as well as use sample data to make inferences under the statistics option. Some graphing features include plotting possibilities and tracing/zooming function analyses. Hewlett-Packard, Palo Alto, CA, (800) 443-1254, www.hp.com/calculators.
