Software Mimics Standardized Tests

Renaissance Learning,Inc. has released Surpasstest-preparation software, a program designed to help teachers improvestudents’ performance on standardized tests. The software generates numerouspractice texts that mirror both the format and the content of majorstate and national assessments. It provides explanations for the questions thatstudents answer incorrectly, and it automatically keeps track of results tohelp teachers identify and correct students’ areas of weakness. Surpassgenerates practice tests in printed formats, and requires students to markanswers on computer scoring sheets as they would on the actual test. The systemis designed to help classroom teachers prepare all students, according to theirabilities, in a setting that simulates actual testing situations.
