Simple Internet Access and Management

Internet Communications Server (ICS) 3.0 is the latest release of BASCOM's flagship K-12 connectivity solution. The new version provides teachers with an intuitive means of efficiently aggregating curriculum-centric resources, while creating a safe environment for student research and communications. It features easy installation, "secure-in-seconds" firewall protection, remote administration, expanded Internet access management capabilities through its Learning Zones technology, increased learning resources via an expanded global education community, enhanced mobile computing functionality and a range of other new offerings.

The Learning Zones are online resources that are grouped into four distinct areas, providing teachers with increased flexibility, and greater choice over Internet usage. The Zones include Lesson Zone, which routes students to resources made available by teachers for particular lessons; School Zone, which gives students access to an education community categorized by subject; Research Zone, which provides students with a broad use of the Internet while restricting access to non-productive sites; and Internet Zone, which provides unrestricted access to the Web. A Profiles feature enables teachers to pre-configure a Learning Zone and capture a range of pre-selected resources pertinent to a specific lesson plan. Teachers can also set an automatic start page to be displayed on the browser when students log in. BASCOM Global Internet Services, Inc., Hauppauge, NY, (631) 434-6600, www.bascom.com.
