Principals Honored in Second Annual Tech Excellence Awards

HighWired, an online community of high schools, in conjunction with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), AOL@SCHOOL and T.H.E. Journal, recently announced the winners of the second annual Technology Excellence Awards. The awards recognize middle and high school principals who have implemented new technology initiatives in their schools. This year, 16 principals across the U.S. were recognized with an award.

To be considered for the award, principals submitted essay applications that detailed the impact their technology initiative had on student learning, professional development or their school community as a whole. Applications were judged by a number of criteria, including planning and implementation of the technology initiative, commitment to technical excellence and overcoming a lack of resources or other obstacles. Winners are awarded an all-expense paid trip to the NASSP convention in Ph'enix, AZ, along with a $500 stipend towards technology in their school.

Schools can order free AOL@SCHOOL software that provides a customized K-12 browser, e-mail, content filtering and local account management. Six online portals are designed for four different student levels, as well as for teachers and administrators.
