MiLAN Introduces Multi-Layer Switch

MiLAN technology is offering Procera MLS, a multi-layer switch that provides hardware routing, flow metering and packet shaping in a single box. The switch allows administrators to implement policy-based applications and bandwidth management on campus and LANs. Procera MLS lets network managers create and enforce policies that precisely allocate network resources to applications, work groups and users. It scans packet characteristics during communication sessions, and acts on them according to predefined or user-defined policies. This allows traffic from ERP, VoIP, CRM, multimedia and other applications to be tailored to enterprise, work group or individual requirements.

With wire speed switching at all layers, Procera MLS delivers aggregate bandwidth of 6.6 million packets per second. It also features 24 auto-negotiating, auto-MDI/MDIX, 10/100 Base-TX and two optional gigabit connections, ensuring IT investments last well into the future by providing a migration path to a higher bandwidth network. The switch resides over Wind River's Tornado for Managed Switches operating system and Broadcom's StrataSwitch chipset, extending and enhancing the capabilities of each.
