CIT Brings Focus of Technology to Community Colleges
The League for Innovation in the Community College’s 18th Annual Conference on Information Technology (CIT) will be held Nov. 17-20 at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, Calif. The conference will allow education professionals at the community college level to learn the latest on the use of information technology to improve teaching and learning, student services and institutional management.
This year’s keynote speakers include Brian L. Hawkins, president of EDUCAUSE; Howard Charney, senior vice president of Cisco Systems; and Dr. Jennifer James, an urban cultural anthropologist. As in past years, CIT 2002 will feature sessions with leaders in education and technology, as well as hands-on labs with representatives from companies, including Adobe, Apple, Dell and IBM. New to CIT this year is a track focusing on the role of computers in math and the sciences. Also new to the conference is a Cyber Security Summit that will discuss the development of a nationally recognized curriculum of certifications and associate degrees in cyber security and information assurance.
Also of interest are the Learning Center Courses that allow participants to earn continuing education credits. Participants can choose from more than 20 full- and partial-day courses that will cover topics such as strategies for recruiting female students in IT programs, fundamentals of cyber security and building a classroom Web site. Participants can also earn graduate credits while participating at CIT through an arrangement with Antioch University McGregor.
