Indiana Science Teacher Wins Computer System from T.H.E.

Troy Harris, winner of the laptop computer system contest!Troy Harris, an eighth-grade science teacher at Tri-West Middle School inLizton, IN, was awarded a Dell Inspiron 6000 notebook computer andPhoto All-in-One 962 printer for winning T.H.E. Journal’s “Win a LaptopComputer System Contest.”“I was extremely grateful when I learned that I was the winner of the computersystem, and plan to use it in my classroom as a resource, so my students can doresearch or Internet scavenger hunts,” says Harris.The contest required educatorsto visit T.H.E.’s Educational Technology Information Center Web site(www.edtechinfocenter.com) and submit a product review. To enter the contest,Harris chose to send in his review on a Sony Mavica digital camera because its easeof-use made it ideal for him to integrate it into his classroom. “The ETIC site is agreat resource to get opinions from other educators,” says Harris. “Our tech staffalso uses it to help select the technologies that best meet the needs of our school.”A teacher for nine years at Tri-West, Harris is also a teacher-leader for a projectthat helps teachers find resources to meet academic standards called the PRISMProject (www.rose-prism.org).
