Follett Acquires TetraData to Help Districts Maximize Their ROIs

Follett Software Co., a provider of integrated, browser-based applications that centralize the management of a school district’s educational resources, has acquired TetraData Corp., a provider of data warehousing, analysis, and reporting solutions for K-12 school districts. TetraData solutions, which are installed in more than 300 school districts nationwide, facilitate No Child Left Behind reporting, as well as data-driven decision-making to help educators achieve high performance and improved student outcomes. “By acquiring TetraData, we have significantly expanded our ability to help K-12 districts maximize the effectiveness of their educational resources,” said Tom Schenck, president of Follett Software Co. “Just as important, we can now play a much larger role in helping our customers ensure that each and every student achieves his or her full potential.”…

Boston Public Library to Launch SchoolRooms Portal for K-12 Students

The Boston Public Library (BPL) has selected the SirsiDynix SchoolRooms online exploration, discovery, and learning portal for K-12 students, teachers, and parents. The library plans to implement SchoolRooms this October as part of a five-year agreement with SirsiDynix. SchoolRooms will be available to all K-12 students in Boston, both remotely and in the BPL’s 27 branches, through its Web site. The Boston Public Library is the first public library system to deploy SchoolRooms citywide. SchoolRooms provides a single, student-friendly interface to high-quality content from library catalogs, online databases, e-content from publishers, popular Internet search engine results, and teacher-selected Web sites. Developed by SirsiDynix in collaboration with INFOhio, the Information Network for Ohio Schools, SchoolRooms is designed to meet both national and state education standards…

Ken-A-Vision Acquires Camera Product Line

Ken-A-Vision has acquired all of the presentation and educational camera assets, as well as the camera business, from ClearOne Communications. The Salt Lake City-based company sold the product line, which includes inventory and intellectual property, in order to focus on its core business of audio-conferencing solutions. The acquisition enables Ken-A-Vision to manufacture and support the cameras from Kansas City, MO, and market them under the names FlexCam and ProfCam by Ken-A-Vision. The acquisition also strengthens Ken-A-Vision’s ability to continue to design, develop, market, and manufacture products for today’s classrooms...

2006-07 School Year to Mark Dell TechKnow’s Largest Class

Dell TechKnow, Dell’s signature initiative to help underserved middle school students gain access to and learn about technology, is gearing up for 10,000 students in the 2006-07 school year, marking its largest enrollment ever. Students from 32 U.S. and two Canadian school districts took part in the Dell TechKnow during the 2005-06 school year, bringing the total number of children reached by the program to more than 13,000 since 2001.
