Miami Public Schools in Oklahoma prides itself on being an early adopter of technology, thanks to a leadership team that truly values the benefits of technology as they relate to education and the future of individualized learning. As educators, we have a responsibility for creating a positive learning environment where all students have the opportunity to achieve academic success and become productive, responsible citizens. As such, our goal was to build a technology infrastructure that would support this mission.

DOE Funds Video Game Research for Middle School Science
The United States Department of Education has awarded $9.2 million to the Education Development Center, a non-profit education research organization, to study how video games can be used in middle school science instruction in the classroom. For the program, EDC will serve as a "National R&D Center on Instructional Technology," developing software and curricula focused on educational video games.

Learning management system developer Blackboard has formally launched its new Blackboard K-12 School Central, a hosted learning platform for Web-based course delivery, enhanced classroom instruction, and teacher professional development. The solution was previously available on a limited basis but is now in full rollout.

NEC Debuts 4 Education Projectors
NEC this week debuted four new projectors targeted toward education applications, along with a new MultiSync LCD display. The new NP-series projectors are entry-level models started at $899 but are designed to provide high light output, support for closed captioning, and built-in networking capabilities.

California SchoolCharts 2008 Available Free Through December
California-based K-12 technology company SchoolCity has announced the availability of the '08 version of California SchoolCharts, a state accountability reporting tool first released by the company in 2006. The new version is being made available to all educators in the state free of charge through December 2008.

Scantron has started shipping its iNSIGHT 30, a new desktop scanner sporting fast speeds, high-resolution, and full color imaging, as well as optical mark recognition (OMR) for accurate data collection.
